Generating Novel Tomato Germplasm Using the Ancestral Wild Relative of Solanum pimpinellifolium

چکیده

To create novel tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) germplasm, a wild relative, S. pimpinellifolium (a red-fruited LA1585 accession), was used as the male parent to cross with yellow-fruited mutant, e9292 (S. lycopersicum). Forty-four morphological characteristics were examined in present study; 22 (LA1585) traits and six lycopersicum (e9292) dominant hybrids (first generation, F1); 10 intermediate types, remaining resulted nonmorphological difference. Ten representative lines chosen from 1338 line of second generation hybrid (e9292 × LA1585). The ascorbic acid content higher three F2 than LA1585, which had parental levels, well lycopene two lines. fructose glucose contents five compared e9292, sugar/acid value broad-sense heritability values ranged 75.06% for total soluble solids 99.92% acid, average 92.66% 15 quality traits. When seedlings exposed NaCl mannitol, tolerance high salt concentrations drought enhanced (F2-266 F2-299) else tomatoes (e9292, F1 hybrids, F2-332). We created germplasm resources horticulturally desirable abiotic stress tolerance, thus offering methodology creation evaluation.

Genome Sequence of the Wild Tomato Species, Solanum pimpinellifolium

We have heard about developments in genome sequencing of key Solanaceae family members, but now it is the wild species turn. Wild species provide a rich resource of genetic diversity and have been integral parts of breeding programs, especially for tomato. The following two articles highlight recent developments in the sequencing of two tomato wild species, Solanum pimpinellifolium, the closest...

Variations in DREB1A and VP1.1 Genes Show Association with Salt Tolerance Traits in Wild Tomato (Solanum pimpinellifolium)

Association analysis was conducted in a core collection of 94 genotypes of Solanum pimpinellifolium to identify variations linked to salt tolerance traits (physiological and yield traits under salt stress) in four candidate genes viz., DREB1A, VP1.1, NHX1, and TIP. The candidate gene analysis covered a concatenated length of 4594 bp per individual and identified five SNP/Indels in DREB1A and VP...

Novel natural genetic variation controlling the competence to form adventitious roots and shoots from the tomato wild relative Solanum pennellii.

Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) is an attractive model to study the genetic basis of adventitious organ formation capacity, since there is considerable natural genetic variation among wild relatives. Using a set of 46 introgression lines (ILs), each containing a small chromosomal segment of Solanum pennellii LA716 introgressed and mapped into the tomato cultivar M82, we characterized a high sh...

Exploring New Alleles Involved in Tomato Fruit Quality in an Introgression Line Library of Solanum pimpinellifolium

We have studied a genomic library of introgression lines from the Solanum pimpinellifolium accession TO-937 into the genetic background of the "Moneymaker" cultivar in order to evaluate the accession's breeding potential. Overall, no deleterious phenotypes were observed, and the plants and fruits were phenotypically very similar to those of "Moneymaker," which confirms the feasibility of transl...

Geographic diversity cline of R gene homologs in wild populations of Solanum pimpinellifolium (Solanaceae).

Plant resistance (R) genes tend to be highly variable within plant species and are thought to be under natural selection; however, little is known about the geographic distribution of R gene diversity within and among plant populations. To determine the possible roles of demography and selection on R gene evolution, patterns of diversity at the multigenic Cf-2 R gene family were studied in Sola...
